Who Are You?

You will have heard this quote:” A goal without action is a dream!” So what motivates you to accomplish your professional goals? And why is it important to recognize what motivates you and others? Understanding what motivates you means knowing your WHYs.

As an entrepreneur knowing your WHYs is what essentially drives your business forward and helps you to overcome the inevitable challenges. As an employer identifying the different WHYs or motivations of each team member will directly impact increases in productivity levels and bottom line results.

There are 6 basic value types that you will have in combination of differing degrees:

1.) Theoretical – Driver = Knowledge

A natural thirst for learning. Need to acquire knowledge. Empirical, critical and rational you love to observe and reason and look to continuously develop your expertise.

2.) Utilitarian – Driver = Money

Incentivized by financial reward not just for yourself but for the good of your family. Practical, results oriented and enterprising you need a fair exchange in return of your investment.

3.) Aesthetic – Driver = Form & Harmony

Enjoyment in creative expression. Grace, symmetry and beauty. Often stylish you thrive in a harmonious environment, both from an energy and visual perspective.

4.) Social – Driver = Helpfulness

An inherent love for people. Kind, sympathetic and unselfish you are concerned for the welfare of others. You care about other’s feelings and simply want to help.

5.) Individualistic – Driver = Power

A highly competitive mindset with strong need to lead and public recognition. Influence, personal power and renown often in politics. You want your name on the wall of fame.

6.) Traditional – Driver = Order

Following a strong belief system and a set code of ethics. All decisions are based on the principles you believe in. You stick to the rules and want others to do the same.

Knowing your motivation will help you understand why you behave and act the way you do. Identifying the key motivators for other’s allows you to develop trust, maximize their strengths and keep them engaged in their work. By learning about motivators you can adapt your own behaviours, communication and take control of professional success.

Differences in motivation often lead to conflict at work that can be better managed by understanding each others natural drivers. When your motivators are aligned with your job or business, you feel energized and focused with high levels of performance and satisfaction.

Interested to find out your own drivers? Then ask us for the Talent Insight Assessment you can take online that provides you a full written report on your motivations.
